The goal of project 4 was to inform and address the issue of violence caused by drug cartels in Mexico. It discusses general violence between groups, violence towards the public, as well as how children are affected. Many children in central Mexico feel as though there's no other "job" option, and so they work for the cartels their whole lives.
ArtFor Art, I researched how common it is for young kids to be recruited into gangs/cartels. While this isn't the only way kids are affected by drug trafficking violence, it is the most pressing one, in my opinion. I created a two-sided collage to illustrate the differences between what most school-age children do, and what many in Mexico have to. This is really a conceptual piece, the real artwork would be much larger, and would be displayed somewhere that it could have a positive impact. Whether that impact is on the U.S. and Mexican governments to force change, or the general public to demand it, displaying this piece would be helpful.

English
For English I wrote and recorded a podcast discussing this topic generally. I provided context, then a breakdown in the 'opinion' portion, as well as a plan moving forward (this piece also served as my Global Studies portion). The structure was very simple, however the subject material was heavy at times (throughout my research). Originally, I planned to create a video essay, but while writing the script, I felt it "flowed" better as a podcast.

Global StudiesFor Global Studies I used synthesis to pull from different aspects of this topic, and create a new product-a solution. The solution itself is found within my English script, labeled "Plan of Action". And that's exactly what it is-a plan for both the United States and Mexico to help address the unnecessary violence that can be attributed to drug trafficking. It has three steps: Transparency, Law enforcement, and Accessibility. Before anything else, we must ensure that politicians are transparent with their involvement in this industry. Then, we need to make sure the law enforcement officers are doing their jobs correctly. Lastly, we need to let some drugs cross the U.S.-Mexico border, so that the demand can be controlled.
